ACADEMICS

Primary

Lower Primary

constitutes the first three years of primary education (Age 6 -8). Children at this stage are encouraged to develop knowledge, attitudes and skills which derive from concrete experiences. The medium of instruction at this level is the Ghanaian Language based on the most dominant language of the locality of the school.

 

Upper Primary

constitutes the last three years of the primary education (Age 9-11). At this stage children are encouraged to reflect, think creatively, find out things for themselves to satisfy their curiosity, ask questions, criticize, solve problems, observe, view information critically, and assimilate new knowledge.

The learning areas at the primary level are:

  • Ghanaian language

  • English language skills

  • Basic mathematical skills

  • Natural science

  • Religious and moral education

  • Music, dance, physical education and creative arts - comprising arts and crafts, are non-examinable and are taught practically and demonstratively

  • The following subjects - Social Studies and Environmental Studies, are integrated thematically and incorporated in the various language materials
